Jay Leno Seriously Burned From Gasoline Fire

Jay Leno is in stable condition but has “serious burns” after a gasoline fire, the former host of “The Tonight Show” told Variety. In a statement, Leno said, “I got badly burned in a gasoline fire. I am ok. Just give me a week or two and I’ll be fine.”

TMZ said that Leno was taken to the hospital on Sunday after a fire broke out in his car garage in Los Angeles. One of the cars is said to have caught on fire, which burned Leno’s face. Leno was hurt, so he was taken to the Grossman Burn Center.

Leno grew up in the Massachusetts town of Andover. In 1968, he finished high school at Andover. He went to Emerson College and got a bachelor’s degree in speech therapy. In 1973, he opened a comedy club at his college.

Jay Leno’s first appearance on “The Tonight Show” was as a featured comedian on March 2, 1977. During the 1970s, Leno had small roles in movies and TV shows like “Good Times,” “Fun With Dick and Jane,” “Laverne & Shirley,” “Alice,” “One Day at a Time,” and “American Hot Wax.” He also did a few times as the featured comedian on “Late Night with David Letterman.”

Starting in 1986, Leno often filled in for Johnny Carson as the host of “The Tonight Show.” David Letterman, who had been hosting “Late Night with David Letterman,” which came on after “The Tonight Show,” since 1982, took Carson’s place as host in 1992.

Mavis and Jay gave the organization $100,000 in 1999 to help spread the word about how hard it is for Afghan women to live under the Taliban.

Leno does not drink, smoke, or gamble.

Salary Highlights

At the end of his time as host of “The Tonight Show,” Jay made $15 million a year. At his highest point on The Tonight Show, he made $30 million a year. After the 2011 season, he agreed to take a 50% pay cut so that his staff could get raises and keep their jobs.

Jay’s busy stand-up tour schedule, which includes more than 200 shows a year, brings in about $10 million a year. Surprisingly, Jay never once took a dime from his Tonight Show salary. Instead, he lived off the money he made from stand-up. Also, Jay doesn’t have a manager or agent who can help him make deals. Here is how much he made from 1992 to 2013.

Real Estate

In 2017, Leno spent $13.5 million on a mansion in Newport, Rhode Island, that had a view of the ocean. It was built in the 1930s and is called Seafair. It is built in a unique half-circle shape to match how the Atlantic coast curves on the nine-acre property.

Once you get past the gate and down the long drive, you’ll enter the 12-bedroom, 13-and-a-half-bathroom home through an old-fashioned formal entry hall. This is just the right size for Jay Leno’s stand-up comedy friends to play poker when they come over.

People who live at Seafair have access to two elevators, a carriage house, a walled garden, a tennis court, and a swimming pool that faces the ocean, just like almost every other part of the house, which supposedly has floor-to-ceiling windows with views of the ocean in every room. Upstairs, there is a master suite, a pool room, a lot of storage space, and, of course, a terrace with a view of the ocean.

The 15,851-square-foot house is on 9 acres and has 12 bedrooms, 12 full bathrooms, and three half-baths. The property has a tennis court and a pool right by the ocean.

Leno also owns two houses in the California city of Bel Air. In 1987, he bought the first house, which was 3,400 square feet and had five bedrooms. In 1997, he bought the second house, which was down the hill.

Leno also has a garage for most of his cars and motorcycles in a 122,000-square-foot hangar in Burbank, California.

Car Collection

Jay has always loved cars, even before he became a car salesman. Maybe that’s why he took that job! Leno loved cars when he was young, and he bought his first one for just $350 before he had enough money to become a car collector. He told the story to CNBC:

I bought a 1934 Ford pickup truck, but it didn’t run. My dad told me, “You have two years until you get your license, so get to work on it.” I figured out how to fix it and get it to work.”

He bought more cars as he made more money. Over the years, he has put together one of the world’s most impressive private car collections. At his house, he can just take an elevator from his bedroom to his garage. Jay also has a bigger garage in Burbank, where most of his collection of 170 cars and more than 100 motorcycles are kept.

Several of his cars are worth more than $1 million each. Some of his most expensive cars are a 2014 McLaren P1, which is worth $1.35 million, a 1955 Mercedes 300SL Gullwing Coupe, which is worth $1.8 million, and a 2006 GM EcoJet, which is so rare that it is almost worthless.

A Lamborghini R485 tractor was one of the more unusual things Jay bought. Ferruccio Lamborghini came up with the idea for the tractor in the late 1960s. After World War II, the famous designer started working as a professional car designer in Italy, where he made tractors and other vehicles for industrial use.

In 1968 and 1969, Mr. Leno’s model was for sale. It is nothing like the beautiful cars that Lamborghini is known for, and it is not a performance car. It has a 5.0-liter engine with four cylinders and can go as fast as 14 miles per hour.

It also has a starter motor from a Lamborghini Countach, a two-foot clutch, and 12 forward gears. Even though it’s not a luxury car, it’s still a cool piece of history and a great addition to an amazing collection.

Jay Leno’s Garage is the name of both his website and his TV show.

Jay Leno’s collection of cars is worth at least $50 million, which is a conservative estimate. The whole thing may be worth more than $100 million.
