When Amazon’s Prime Video Invincible came out, it was so popular that fans were asking for a second season on social media before the first season was even over. That’s what we call hard work.
Fans worked hard, signed petitions, and used hashtags to get Amazon’s Prime Video to listen. In April 2021, the show was picked up for a second season… and a third!
Even before this surprise announcement, the show’s creator, Robert Kirkman, had already hinted that there might be more episodes, though it would be hard to do.
When the Second Season of “Invincible” is Coming?
Still, it will be a while before the second season comes out. In fact, not much is known about the season and when it will start in general.
In an interview with ComicBookMovie, showrunner Simon Racioppa said that they are working hard on it, but he reminded everyone that because it’s a big show, “doing it right takes time.”
There was always the hope that it could come out in the first half of 2022, but since animation takes a long time to make, that was not likely. We might not get any new episodes until later in the year. With this in mind, season 2 could come out as early as fall 2022, but at this point, 2023 seems like a more likely date.
Expected Cast and Character of the Invincible Season 2
The cast of “Invincible” is, and we don’t say this lightly, “stacked,” and it’s possible that it will only get bigger as the show goes on.
After that crazy end to season one, we expect most of the following to be back for season two of Invincible:
• Steven Yeun as Mark Grayson / Invincible
• Sandra Oh as Debbie Grayson
• JK Simmons as Nolan Grayson / Omni-Man
• Zachary Quinto as Robot
• Ross Marquand as Rudy Connors, Robot’s new real body
• Gillian Jacobs as Samantha Eve Wilkins / Atom Eve
• Jason Mantzoukas as Rex Sloan / Rex Splode
• Malese Jow as Kate Cha / Dupli-Kate
• Grey Griffin as Shrinking Rae
• Khary Payton as Black Samson
• Walton Goggins as Cecil Stedman
• Seth Rogen as Allen the Alien
• Mahershala Ali as Titan
• Kevin Michael Richardson as The Mauler Twins
• Andrew Rannells as William Crockwell
• Zazie Beetz as Amber Bennett
Yeun is already back in the studio recording. He said this was true in a video that was posted on the official Twitter account for Invincible. Yeun is shown working hard to record his lines for the second season of Invincible.
What Will Season 2 of Invincible Be About?
Season 2 of the show could go in so many different ways, so instead of making wild guesses, let’s focus on the story seeds that Season 1 left behind.
Mark’s discovery that he and his father aren’t superheroes but aliens from the Viltrumite Empire, which sends soldiers to conquer planets and terraform them with their “utopian” technology and society, is the biggest plot point that will definitely be explored in new episodes.
Mark, who is half Viltrumite, got into a big fight with Omni-Man when he found out the truth about his father’s origin and purpose. This led to a fight between father and son that broke bones and knocked out teeth. In the end, it was Nolan’s love for his son, which Viltrumites see as a terrible weakness, that made him leave Mark’s life and the planet instead of killing Mark for good.
The chaos that is still going on on Mars, with the parasitic Sequids running amok, and Mark’s complicated love life, with or without Amber, are also likely to be big parts of the new episodes (Beetz). Most importantly, though, Invincible finds out that the Viltrumite Army is going to invade and probably finish his father’s failed plan to take over the whole planet.
In response, Cecil asks him to take over his father’s job as Earth’s protector while the Guardians of the Globe get back on their feet after being wiped out in battle. Since Omni-Man almost killed his kid before he flew off the planet, it’s not clear if Mark will be able to fight his dad and his group of Viltrimites.
Recap of 1st Season of the Invincible
Mark Grayson and his crazy alien father had a brutal fight at the end of the first season of Invincible. The fight almost cost the teenage superhero his life.
Just as Omni-Man was about to deal the final blow, he thought about all the good times he had had with his son over the years and couldn’t do it.
Omni-Man flew away, and we don’t know where he went. However, he will almost certainly be back in season two, since we now know that Viltrumite invaders are on their way to a planet where the strongest heroes have been killed.
In addition to this existential threat, the season one finale showed a montage of other enemies Mark will have to face in future episodes, such as evil mob bosses and creepy aliens that control people’s minds.
If you want to know what will happen next in this story, you can read Robert Kirkman’s Invincible comic books, which are what the show is based on.
