Joseph Gordon-Levitt was supposed to star and perhaps direct, while Goyer and Gaiman were supposed to produce with them. Gordon-Levitt, however, left the project in 2016 due to creative disagreements. Warner Bros. moved its attention to television as a result of the film’s protracted development. Filming for the series took place from October 2020 to August 2021 after Netflix agreed to produce it.

Release Date

According to Netflix, the show will debut on the service on August 5, 2022.

The Sandman adaptation attempts started in the 1990s, but the project stalled in development hell until Joseph Gordon-Levitt and The Dark Knight writer David S. Goyer proposed the movie to Warner Bros. in 2013. Netflix confirmed a TV adaptation in June 2019, after Gordon-Levitt abandoned the role owing to creative issues in 2016.

Before the coronavirus pandemic halted production, as it did for other TV shows, the series was all prepared to premiere in May 2020.

On Tumblr, Neil Gaiman stated that the cast was “taking the opportunity to get the scripts as fantastic as we can,” and in September 2020, Gaiman will release his next novel.

Storyline of the Sandman

The Sandman was a comic book published by DC Comics’ adult-oriented Vertigo line that ran for 75 issues from January 1989 to March 1996. As the large cast might imply, it contains a complicated and detailed plot spanning hundreds of years.

The Sandman is a Netflix original series that is described as “a rich blend of modern myth and dark fantasy in which contemporary fiction, historical drama, and legend are seamlessly interwoven” and “follows the people and places affected by Morpheus, the Dream King, as he mends the cosmic—and human—mistakes he’s made during his vast existence.”

The comics’ main storyline follows Morpheus, also known as Dream, who is caught by an occult group in 1916 and held captive for several years until breaking free and attempting to reestablish his realm of the Dreaming.

Along with Destiny, Death, Desire, Despair, Delirium, and Destruction, Dream is one of the seven Endless, which are anthropomorphic representations of the concepts of the same name.
