His Dark Materials Season 3 Release Date: What is Expected to Happen in His Dark Materials Season 3?
After the makers of the hit fantasy series, His Dark Materials on BBC and HBO revealed that “it’s time to seal the doors on the final chapter” in November 2021, fans of the series are preparing themselves for the third and final series of the trilogy, which will air in 2022.
His Dark Materials is a book series written by Phillip Pullman that shares the same name as the television show. Actor James McAvoy has stated that viewers should anticipate “a lot of fisticuffs and a lot of explosions” when the show returns. Ahead of the premiere of the third and final season of His Dark Materials, here is all you need to know about the show’s plot.
His Dark Materials Season 3: Release Date
The pandemic has messed up the schedule for making His Dark Materials, just like it has for a lot of other shows. Even though most of season 2 had been filmed before production stopped, a standalone episode about Lord Asriel, played by James McAvoy, was scrapped. It’s not clear if the episode will be used in season 3 or if it will be thrown away.
As for the schedule for season 3, Tranter told Deadline that executive producer Jack Thorne and a team of writers had written six of the eight episodes as of November 2020, and she was hopeful that production on the third season would start in spring 2021. In the statement that HBO and BBC One put out about His Dark Materials season 3, they said that filming will start in Cardiff, Wales in 2021, but they didn’t say when or what season it will be.
Taking everything into account, it seems unlikely that the third season will air in 2021. If filming starts in the spring, season 3 is likely to start around the end of 2022.
His Dark Materials Season 3: Expected Cast and Character
The cast of His Dark Materials Season 3 includes series regulars Dafne Keen and Amir Wilson as Lyra and Will, along with Ruth Wilson as Mrs. Coulter, Simone Kirby as Mary Malone, Ruta Gedmintas as Serafina Pekkala, and Will Keen’s Father as Father President MacPhail.
Kit Connor, formerly of the band Heartstopper, will continue to provide the voice of Pantalaimon. As do the voices of Kaisa, Iorek Byrnison, Sergi, and Octavia, which are provided by David Suchet, Joe Tandberg, Sope Dirisu, and Lindsay Dunca, respectively.
The upcoming season will have some new faces in the cast.
Fleabag’s Sian Clifford, who will play Agent Salmakia, and Sherlock’s Jonathan Aris, who will play Commander Roke, are among the new cast members. Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje, who is known for his role as Jon Snow on Game of Thrones, will play Commander Ogunwe in Season 3, and Jamie Ward will take on the role of Father Gomez.

Amber Fitzgerald-Woolfe will take on the role of Ama, while Kobna Holdbrook-Smith, Simon Harrison, and Chipo Chung (who will be taking over for Sophie Okonedo) will portray the rebel angels Balthamos, Baruch, and Xaphania, respectively.
After making a brief appearance in the previous season, fans will be thrilled to learn that McAvoy’s character will most likely feature more prominently in the upcoming season.
His Dark Materials Season 3: Episodes
We know how many episodes will be in the last season of His Dark Materials because an executive producer, Jane Tranter, said in a quote that there will be eight:
“I like stories that are told slowly and in a way that says, “Let’s really get into this.” But the truth is that I just wanted to keep making His Dark Materials for the rest of my life. The Amber Spyglass is perfect as eight episodes, and I’ll admit I was wrong and talking out of my butt. I wanted to do it over and over again.”
His Dark Materials Season3: Expected Storyline
The good news for those who want to know what’s going to happen in the next season is that it, very obviously, is based on the third novel in Pullman’s trilogy, which is called The Amber Spyglass. Those who want to know what’s going to happen in the next season may look forward to that.
This means that you may get a head start on the plot if you want to by reading the novel if you want to (and we highly recommend doing so, it’s a stunner), however you might want to avoid reading it in order to keep things as exciting as possible.

While Lyra and Will have plenty of new things to explore and a risky voyage ahead of them, Miss Coulter and Lord Asriel will continue to entwine themselves around them as they struggle to have a say in the destiny of humanity and its relationship with Dust.
His Dark Materials: Is There Going to Be a Season 4?
We are in for some bad news, as we now know that this will be the final season of His Dark Materials. The Amber Spyglass marks the conclusion of the source materials. Or do we?
The Book of Dust is the title of a new trilogy of novels written by Philip Pullman and set in the same world as his first three novels. The first two parts of this trilogy are currently available to readers, and the third will be published in 2022. Even though some of the books do not take place during the events of His Dark Materials, they do involve several of the characters from that series, most notably Lyra.

This indicates that we wouldn’t completely rule out going back to Lyra’s Oxford for the TV program at some point in the future, although it’s possible that the episode will air under a different title. Again, we are secretly hoping that they would follow this, as the new novels appear to be just as captivating as the earlier volumes.
His Dark Materials Season 3Trailer
The last season of His Dark Materials came out more than two years ago, and it looks like we still have to wait for series three. Back in June 2021, the BBC announced that the much-anticipated final series will air on BBC One and BBC iPlayer in the fall of 2022, but an official release date has not yet been set. There is no release date no trailer.
His Dark Materials: Where Can I Watch it?
If you live in the United Kingdom, you don’t have to worry about the first two seasons of His Dark Materials expiring before you get a chance to see them on BBC iPlayer because you can watch them whenever you want.
At this point, in the United States, it may require that you have a membership to HBO Max in order to be able to view the show on HBO’s very own streaming platform. However, if you have an HBO add-on for your Hulu subscription, you may also watch it there.
