Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson has stated in an interview with CinemaBlend that a Black Adam vs. Superman film is “the whole objective” of bringing Black Adam to the big screen in his own standalone film. At Comic-Con this summer, Johnson was asked which character would win in a battle, to which he responded, “It depends on who’s playing Superman.” After being asked, if they “intend to make a movie where Black Adam fights [Superman],” Johnson responded, “Absolutely. Yes, exactly; that’s the point.
A new age in the DC Universe is set to begin, as Johnson has been saying for some time. As for what I had in mind, it was to introduce a fresh personality. It is neither a sequel nor an adaptation of an already existing intellectual property.
It was… Black Adam, of course. Until around two years ago, nobody had heard of him. We did, but apparently not the vast majority of people out there. What I meant when I said, “This is a new era in the DC Universe,” was that we would finally start paying attention to what the fans wanted. We’re listening to the fans, and we’re trying to provide.
Johnson said, “I have been listening and I’ve been wanting to address fans for years” about the want to see Black Adam and Superman battle it out on the big screen.
“I’ve been waiting for someone to step up and address the fans and say, “Hey, we hear you,” Johnson continued. After what seemed like months but turned out to be years, we arrived at the current state of affairs. And now, everything is geared toward this brand-new age.
