Prior to its global release by United Artists Releasing on October 28, 2022, the movie is slated to have a limited release on October 14, 2022, in the United States, the United Kingdom, and Canada. Universal Pictures will handle distribution outside of the US and Canada.

The movie had its world premiere on October 1 at the New York Film Festival, and on October 15 and 16 it will be shown at the London Film Festival and the 31st Philadelphia Film Festival. The distributor intends to host special film screenings for high school students at Alice Tully Hall in New York; the film screenings and the filmmakers’ questionnaires will be simultaneously posted online.

What is the Movie About?

On August 27, 2020, it was revealed that Chinonye Chukwu would pen and helm a feature film on Mamie Till-Mobley and her quest for justice following the lynching of her 14-year-old son, Emmett Till. The movie would be based on her life. The movie, which was made by Orion Pictures, draws on 27 years of study by Keith Beauchamp, whose work resulted in the US Department of Justice reviving Till’s case in 2004.

Until his passing in 2017, Simeon Wright, Till’s cousin and a witness to the incident provided advice on the project. The draught of Chukwu’s screenplay which she previously co-wrote with Beauchamp and director Michael Reilly served as its foundation. Whoopi Goldberg and Danielle Deadwyler joined the cast in July 2021.

In August of that year, Jalyn Hall was cast as Emmett Till. In September 2021, the shooting got underway in Atlanta, Georgia.
