What Company Created the Puppets for This Show?
The puppets were created by Viva La Puppet and have the uncommon ability to devour food on camera for multiple takes. Waffles have a “hidden pocket” that can be cleaned, according to Waffle’s puppeteer Michelle Zamora. As well as a specially designed glove that allows Waffles to securely consume hot meals.
They modified the settings so Zamora could eat at the same time as Waffles in order to boost her real-time reactions to Waffles eating food, and she claimed to be “being spoon-fed tortellini by Massimo Bottura.” They kept “three or four puppets” on-site for the dining sequences in case the puppets grew too filthy and couldn’t be cleaned.
Originally, the puppets were intended to be “as detailed as feasible utilizing animatronics.” However, it was decided to simplify them and make them more Sesame Street-like, with “puppetry rods easily apparent.”
