The upcoming American epic comedy-drama set in the past called Babylon was written and will be directed by Damien Chazelle. Brad Pitt, Margot Robbie, Diego Calva, Jovan Adepo, Li Jun Li, and Jean Smart are all in the cast of this movie.
Damien Chazelle is a director who rose to the top so quickly that it seems unfair, but when you look at everything he has done at the age of 37, it makes perfect sense. When it was shown at the 2014 Sundance Film Festival, Chazelle’s first movie, Whiplash, was a real hit. It got five Oscar nominations and three wins, including Best Supporting Actor for J.K. Simmons.
What is the Plot of Babylon?
Babylon will take place in Hollywood in the 1920s when silent movies were giving way to talkies. Like Once Upon a Time in Hollywood and Licorice Pizza, it will mix fictional characters with real people. The movie will be about a group of characters, some of whom do well with the change and others who struggle to keep their careers going.
The official plot synopsis via Paramount reads:
“Babylon is an original epic by Damien Chazelle that takes place in Los Angeles in the 1920s. Brad Pitt, Margot Robbie, and Diego Calva star, and Jovan Adepo, Li Jun Li, and Jean Smart are also in the cast. It follows the rise and fall of several characters during a time when Hollywood was full of decadence and vice.”
Cast of Babylon
To be more specific, Oscar-winner Brad Pitt will play a character named Jack Conrad in the movie. Pitt’s character is made up, but he is based on John Gilbert, who was a big star in silent movies in the 1920s and had trouble making the switch to talkies. Pitt recently led the cast of David Leitch’s action movie Bullet Train for Sony.
He also had a small but memorable part in The Lost City, an adventure-romance movie with Sandra Bullock. Margot Robbie, who was nominated for an Academy Award, will play Nellie LaRoy. The character is said to be heavily based on Clara Bow, who was a big star during the talkie era. Robbie has become a big star since she was in The Wolf of Wall Street by Martin Scorsese.
Her roles in me, Tonya, and Bombshell earned her two Oscar nominations. She also played Harley Quinn, a well-known character from DC Comics, in the movies Suicide Squad, Birds of Prey, and The Suicide Squad.
As for what’s next for the Australian superstar, Margot Robbie is starring in three star-studded movies by three well-known directors: David O. Russell’s Amsterdam, Wes Anderson’s Asteroid City, and Greta Gerwig’s Barbie. She is also going to be in a movie that is a prequel to Ocean’s Eleven. Other casts are the following:
- Jeff Garlin as Don Wallach
- P. J. Byrne
- Rory Scovel as The Count
- Eric Roberts
- Ethan Suplee
- Damon Gupton
- Phoebe Tonkin
- Chloe Fineman
- Karina Fontes as Jen
- Troy Metcalf
- Olivia Hamilton as Ruth Adler
- Telvin Griffin as Reginald
Is There Any Trailer for Babylon?
On September 12, 2022, the first official trailer for Babylon went online, a day after it was shown for the first time at the Toronto International Film Festival. The trailer says that Babylon will be a wild ride with a lot of chaos, like a mix of The Great Gatsby and The Wolf of Wall Street.
What is the Release Date of Babylon?
We won’t have to wait too long for Babylon. Paramount has announced that the movie will now be shown in theatres everywhere on December 23, 2022. Before October 18, it was said that the film would have a limited release on December 25, 2022, and then a wider release on January 6, 2023.
‘Babylon’ is no longer going limited on Christmas, rather wide on Dec. 23 as Sony’s ‘A Man Called Otto’ switches to a New York-LA engagement on Christmas and a wide break on Jan. 13 https://t.co/1RqFUGnF1j

However, on October 18, it was said that the limited release would not happen. Before COVID-19 changed everything in Hollywood, the movie was set to come out in limited theatres on December 25, 2021, and in theatres everywhere on January 7, 2022. Given how many movies were up for awards this year, it’s probably best that Babylon didn’t come out until next year.
As of right now, Babylon will open around a lot of big movies, like the Whitney Houston biopic I Wanna Dance With Somebody, Dreamworks Animation’s fairy tale sequel Puss in Boots: The Last Wish, James Cameron’s long-awaited Avatar: The Way of Water, and a limited release of the Tom Hanks comedy A Man Called Otto.
