Who Was ‘Dubai Bling’ Star Loujain Adada’s Late Husband Walid Juffali? Everything About Billionaire Businessman!

Dubai Bling, a new Netflix reality series, follows jet-setters in Dubai and the glitter that comes with it. There are expensive events, magnificent apparel, and incredible displays of wealth—you get the picture.

The wonderful Loujain Adada, a.k.a. LJ, is one cast member who has already sparked a slew of questions. While Loujain’s Instagram is full of stunning modeling images (she’s a working model who has also presented TV shows), she has a heartbreaking backstory. Walid Juffali, a billionaire, died in 2016.

But who exactly was Walid Juffali, and how did he get so wealthy? Here’s what you should know.

Walid Juffali, Who Was He?

According to The Daily Mail, Walid Juffali was a millionaire businessman born on April 30, 1955, to one of Saudi Arabia’s wealthiest families. According to The Telegraph, his family operates one of the Middle East’s greatest businesses, with a fortune estimated at $9 billion.

Walid was the chairman of E.A. Juffali and Brothers, Saudi Arabia’s largest privately held corporation, as well as the chairman of W Investments (his own investment firm) and the Saudi American Banks and the Saudi Cement Company. Simply put, he held numerous crucial positions at numerous large corporations.

He Went to School in the United States

According to The Daily Mail, Walid studied at the University of San Diego before earning a doctorate in neuroscience at Imperial College in London.

LJ and Walid Tied the Knot in a Magnificent Wedding

This was Walid’s third wedding, and it was spectacular. According to Arabian Weddings, the couple married in 2012 in Venice, Italy, and they celebrated with a Venetian-themed ball, because what else would you expect? LJ was just 25 years old compared to Walid’s 60, but that didn’t stop the lovebirds from having a good time.

The wedding reportedly cost $10 million, and Loujain wore $3 million in diamond jewelry. LJ was practically dressed in millions of dollars worth of clothing when she wore it with her Chanel gown. Oh! And Akon performed during their wedding. Casual.

While Married to Another Woman, He Married LJ

Walid’s marriage to Loujain was complicated by the fact that he was also married to another lady at the time: American supermodel Christina Estrada. According to a 2008 report published in Islamic Law and Society, having numerous wives is legal in Saudi Arabia.

Christina and Walid married in 2001 and had been married for almost 13 years until their divorce. In case you missed it, Estrada previously dated Prince Andrew. According to The Telegraph, she was linked to the now-disgraced prince in 2000.

Walid “secretly” married Loujain, according to the New York Post, prompting Christina to petition for divorce. Walid later claimed that he divorced Christina in Saudi Arabia in 2014 in violation of Islamic law without informing her. In any case, Christina and Walid divorced in a very public and expensive manner. More on that in a minute.

Walid Was Quite Wealthy

There is no exact estimate available, and estimates in the news have fluctuated, but Walid’s net worth was clearly out of this world. According to his obituary in The Independent, he was worth a staggering £8 billion (or around $9.2 billion) at the time of his death.

According to The Telegraph, this massive sum makes sense given his “many” houses in the UK, which contained luxuries such as three butlers, six gardeners, and $4.62 million in art. According to the New York Post, one of his properties was a 33,000-square-foot English estate advertised for $42 million (a price reduction from its original asking price of $65.5 million). There were 12 bedrooms and 12 baths in that mansion.

He Went Through Two Costly Divorces

According to Vanity Fair, Christina requested $312 million in the divorce settlement and received $100 million in 2016. But it wasn’t his first divorce. Walid also settled a divorce with his first wife, Basma Al-Sulaiman, for $62 million in 2000, according to Arabian Business.

According to the Post, Christina told the High Court, “You have to understand.” “I’m leaving [Bishopsgate House] and relocating to a five- or six-bedroom house.”

Walid Passed Away in 2016

Walid battled cancer for several years before dying in 2016. According to the Telegraph, he found out about his diagnosis not long after he and Loujain married. And, according to LJ, he died soon after their second child was born.

I’m not sure about you, but I think LJ’s famous late husband will be mentioned quite a bit this season. Keep an eye out for more on Dubai Bling.
