Bentley attended Cowboy Camp after being cast as Jamie Dutton, where the creator of Yellowstone Taylor Sheridan taught the actors how to ride. While living off the grid in Utah with actual cowboys, the actors learned the ropes of being a cowboy, including how to ride a horse.

Wes Bentley battled addiction after becoming famous at a young age for his part in American Beauty. He developed drug and alcohol addictions, but fortunately, he was able to get help. Bentley has been sober for several years after completing the 12-step program twice.
Bentley expressed the following in 2012 regarding his prior addiction:
“I was taking great risks to obtain drugs. I used to ride around in cars with homeless men and recently released prisoners, then I’d go out and smoke all day. It was so heartbreaking for them that I was asked to leave auditions mid-reading after I had already dozed off on set a few times. I was so out of it that I couldn’t attend my brother’s wedding. I experienced trembling, hearing voices, and paranoia on a daily basis. I didn’t care that I was on the verge of death.
