According to a recent video uploaded to YouTube by the reputable One Piece content creator Rocks Review, Monkey D. Dragon may have been influenced by a Persian/Hindu deity. As a result, the video has become a popular topic of conversation among the series’ most devoted followers.
This latest One Piece idea is a continuation of the theory that Monkey D. Luffy is modeled on Lord Hanuman, the Hindu divinity. Rocks Review suggests that Monkey D. Dragon, the father of Luffy, may have been inspired by Vayu, the father of Hanuman.
The first part of Rocks Review’s theory is that Luffy is based on the Hindu god Hanuman. The YouTuber then talks about Hanuman’s father, Vayu, and tells viewers that Vayu is the wind god. Rocks Review also brings up the popular fan theory that Dragon can control the wind in some way.
The One Piece content creator then talks about Vayu’s place in Persian mythology. He says that in Persian mythology, Vayu is a god with two faces. They also say that Vayu is the only god who doesn’t fully belong in either a world of darkness or a world of light. This is why God will sometimes work with the Lord of Darkness, Angra Mainyu, and sometimes with the Lord of Light, Ahura Mazda.
Then, Rocks Review compares this to the fight between the Marines and the pirates in the One Piece world, with Dragon as an outside, third-party force. The YouTuber talks about how Vayu is known as the calmest god and compares this to what we recently learned about Dragon: that he doesn’t like battles and fights.
Then they say that when Vayu gets mad, he is like “a typhoon that can’t be stopped in any realm.” This is likely a reference to the fact that Vayu is connected to both the Lords of Darkness and the Lords of Light, which means that neither of them can stop him when he’s really mad.
Rocks Review then compares this to Dragon, saying that once he gets angry, he can’t be stopped and that’s why he avoids battles and fights so much. This could be compared to how neither the Marines nor the pirates in the show could control Dragon when he was in a state of pure, unadulterated rage.

The theory ends here, with Rocks Review saying that his claims will come true before the end of the series. Overall, the theory is very solid, even though it depends on other theories that have already been proven. But the whole thing could fall apart if it turned out that Dragon doesn’t have any Devil Fruit powers, wind-based or not.
Still, it’s a very common and almost foolproof fan theory that Dragon does have wind-based powers.
So, this One Piece theory about his power and his final role in the story is a great one, as it ties together many of the series’ known sources of inspiration and more.
