I Am Legend is a 2007 American post-apocalyptic action thriller movie that is partially based on Richard Matheson’s 1954 book of the same name. The movie, which was directed by Francis Lawrence and stars Will Smith as US Army virologist Robert Neville, was written by Mark Protosevich and Akiva Goldsman.

The story takes place in New York City after a virus that was used to treat cancer killed most of humanity and left only Neville and nocturnal mutants alive. Neville, who is immune to the infection, fights off the hostile mutants while also working to find a cure. Following 1964’s The Last Man on Earth and 1971’s The Omega Man, this is the third feature-length adaptation of Matheson’s book.

I Am Legend was developed by Warner Bros. in 1994, and several actors and directors were involved in the film. However, production was delayed because of budgetary issues with the script. Filming mostly on-site in the city, including a $5 million scene at the Brooklyn Bridge, started production in New York City in 2006.

I Am Legend 2 Release Date

I Am Legend 2 has no set release date as of yet. However, Will Smith hinted that the sequel would begin production on March 4, 2022. Fans quickly picked up on the actor’s cryptic Instagram post of an empty city street without a caption after another well-known actor posted the same image on his social media accounts.

The most likely release date was initially thought to be the following year, but given what transpired at this year’s Academy Awards ceremony — in fact, it seems that news about the movie stopped in its tracks from that point — and Will Smith’s involvement in Emancipation, it’s safe to say that, at the earliest, I Am Legend 2 will not hit theatres until 2024.

Neville, the last person left on Earth after a virus created by humanity kills everyone else, is the subject of the movie “I Am Legend.” It’s possible that the sequel will begin after Neville’s invention has been made public and distributed. It’s unclear if Neville, who passed away at the end of the film to preserve the novel treatment, will survive long enough to witness it.

A division between the Darkseekers and those who have been healed or are not infected would be intriguing. This would raise concerns about humanity and the way we categorize illnesses. What if some of the infected refuse to receive treatment? Is it feasible that they have developed a distinctive culture and means of subsisting that they are content to live with? Who else could instruct them on how to live?

However, how fair is it to leave them alone if their way of life is bad for other people? Because they would elaborate on some of the more philosophical concepts from the first film, these elements may make for a really interesting sequel.

The show has a strong IMDb rating of 7.2/10 and a 68% average audience rating on Rotten Tomatoes.
