Josh Safran Has Already Thought About Future Seasons

Safran is already planning for next season. The producer is used to making long-running shows; he was also the executive producer of the first Gossip Girl. There were six seasons of the first show.

Safran told Harper’s Bazaar before a second season was confirmed, “I would love to keep the show going.” “I set it up so that each season is a semester, so we wouldn’t have the same problem as the first show, whereby the third season, the characters had to go to college. Which I think was the right choice at the time. If you think about it now, you could have stayed in high school longer. If each season is a semester and they are now juniors, they would go to college in Season 5.”

But if there is a second season, Safran is more open to combining old and new Gossip Girl characters.

“The decision was, ‘Let’s finish Season 1,’ and if we get Season 2, we’ll be able to bring in cameos that are more than just glorified cameos and give them actual storylines,'” Safran said. “We hope to get there, and if we do, we’ll let the cast know and see if they want to come. Some people from the original show make cameos in Season 1, but not the main cast.”
