A lot has changed for DC Comics‘ upcoming film and television projects in 2022. After the official merger of Warner Bros. and Discovery, the changes took a more serious turn, resulting in the botched removal of content from HBO Max and the cancellation of projects for the DC Extended Universe, including a potential “Batgirl” film.
However, after James Gunn and Peter Safran were named as the leaders of DC Studios, everything seemed to be moving in the right direction. The two have been developing a future plan for the DC film and TV projects that may interconnect and grow into the MCU with Disney.
Although no information from Gunn and Safran’s DC Universe Bible has been publicly revealed, fans initially believed that the redesigned DCEU will include a friendly and well-known visage. For a spectacular mid-credits scene in the movie “Black Adam,” actor Henry Cavill played Superman once again this year.

Following that visit, Cavill made an official announcement about his return to the role of Superman and hinted at a bright future for the Last Son of Krypton amid frenzied fan anticipation. Cavill’s anticipated homecoming may not go as smoothly, though, since the actor’s future as Superman may not be as certain as previously thought thanks to ideas allegedly being discussed by Gunn and Safran.
The Snyderverse May Be Removed From Dc by Gunn and Safran.
A popular rumor regarding James Gunn and Peter Safran’s plans for the future of the DC Universe, according to The Hollywood Reporter, is that they will start from scratch and exclude any projects that are connected to director Zack Snyder’s time with the characters. This includes the upcoming “Man of Steel“ sequel, which many fans thought was the thing Henry Cavill was hinting at when he hinted at returning as Superman.
The Hollywood Reporter also stated that there were serious plans for a “Man of Steel 2” with Cavill when he confirmed his return to the Superman role. However, depending on Gunn and Safran’s ideas and what Warner Bros. Discovery CEO David Zaslav decides to do, the sequel may never get off the ground.

It would be crucial to consider Cavill’s future in DC as Superman if “Man of Steel 2” were to be scrapped. We’d hope the actor is still a part of whatever Gunn and Safran have come up with after formally making the news himself. And that should entail a new Superman standalone project.
This is particularly troubling because Cavill recently quit his role as Geralt of Rivia on Netflix’s “The Witcher,” a series to which he had previously committed to appearing for at least seven seasons. We’d have to assume that DC’s choice to leave “The Witcher” was significantly influenced by the opportunity to don the blue-and-red outfit once more.
