Ethel Beavers From “Parks and Recreation,” Helen Slayton-hughes of New Jersey, Passed Away at Age 92

The actor Helen Slayton-Hughes, best known for portraying the endearingly grumpy Ethel Beavers in the NBC series “Parks and Recreation,” has passed away, according to her family.

She was 92. From 2011 through 2015, Beavers appeared on “Parks and Rec” frequently.

Marriage licenses were issued and signed by the court stenographer who lived on the infamous fourth floor of the Pawnee, Indiana municipal building. and shivering while reading transcripts. Slayton-Hughes won over the audience with her agitated kind of deadpan role.

She was described in the announcement by the actor’s family as saying, “I enjoy performing drama, but I’m constantly recruited to do comedy.”

At Syracuse University, Slayton-Hughes studied drama alongside Jerry Stiller and Peter Falk. Her cinematic playing career began in the 1980s, when she was in her fifties after she had spent decades performing in community theatre.

She made cameos in movies like “Shoot the Moon” and “Mafia on the Bounty” (1980). (1982). When she was 70 years old, Slayton-Hughes relocated to Los Angeles after being cast in “Nash Bridges.”

Additionally, she acted in movies like George Clooney’s “Good Night, and Good Luck” and Gus Van Sant’s “Don’t Worry, He Won’t Get Far on Foot” (2018). (2005).

Slayton-Hughes has more recently appeared in the Netflix films “The Curse of Bridge Hollow,” which debuted in October, and “He’s All That,” which will debut in 2021. She also appeared in the 2018 suspenseful film “The Invisible Mother.”

Ben Wyatt’s on-screen counterpart Adam Scott also paid tribute to the actor.

He wrote on Instagram, “Lots of love to Helen Slayton-Hughes, her family, and to Ethel Beavers.” “All of your Pawnee friends will miss you,”

He also quoted Beavers, saying, “It’s beyond 10:00! I’ve been dozing off for four hours,” reads a screenshot from a scene in which Beavers holds a flask out at a restaurant and requests a refill.

Slayton-Hughes was from a performing family; Emmy winner Peter Dinklage, who grew up in Mendham, is her first cousin once removed. She is survived by four daughters and six grandkids.
