Mike Leach was born in Susanville, California, on March 9, 1961. He is best known for coaching college football and creating strong offenses based on the Air Raid system, which he and Hal Mumme came up with when they worked together in the 1990s. This system has helped teams coached by Leach break a lot of NCAA records and do very well. In fact, during his career, his teams have won 10 conference titles!

What Happened to Mike Leach? Is Mike Leach Dead or Alive?

Mississippi State football coach Mike Leach had a “personal health issue” at his home and is in critical condition at the University of Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson, Miss., the school said Monday.

“Mike’s family is with him and appreciates all of the love and support for the coach,” the school said. “However, they also ask that their privacy be respected at this time.”

Mississippi State said Sunday night that Leach was taken from his home to the hospital by ambulance. The school also said that the football team will be run by defensive coordinator Zach Arnett until Leach returns.

This season, Leach, who is 61 years old, led the Bulldogs to an 8-4 record. Since he started with the Bulldogs in 2020, he has a 19-17 record. In eight seasons at Washington State, Leach led the team to a 55-47 record. From 2000 to 2009, he went 84-43 in 10 seasons at Texas Tech.

In 21 years as a college head coach, Leach has a 158-107 record and an 8-9 record in bowl games. He also worked as an assistant at the universities of Oklahoma, Kentucky, Valdosta State, Iowa Wesleyan, Cal Poly, and College of the Desert. He was also the coach of the American Football Association of Finland’s Pori Bears. At 11 a.m. EST on Jan. 2, the Bulldogs will play Illinois in the ReliaQuest Bowl in Tampa, Florida.
