Black Mirror Season 5: is Season 6 of Black Mirror Coming Out?

After a three-year break, the original creators of Black Mirror have agreed to work on a new season.

After the season 5 premiere in June 2019, it was unclear what would happen to the show. However, Variety says that a new dystopian drama series is on the way.

The plot details are still being kept under wraps, but the publication says that casting is already in full swing. It also says that the new season will have more episodes than the last one, and each episode will be made like a movie like it was in season 5.

About Black Mirror Season 5

Since creator Charlie Brooker and his partner Annabel Jones left the production company House of Tomorrow, which owns the rights to the sci-fi dystopian drama, this will be the first season to be made.

The two went on to start their own production company, Broke, and Bones, but the rights to the show still belonged to House of Tomorrow, which is now owned by the Banijay Group.

After three years, it looks like fans can rest easy because the two companies and Netflix have come to a deal.

But based on what Brooker has said before if it had been up to the creators back then, season 6 still wouldn’t have come out for a while.

Back in 2020, Brooker said that he wasn’t sure if there would be more stories set in the world of Black Mirror. He said that his new goal was to “make myself laugh.”

He told RadioTimes, “Right now, I don’t know how many people would be interested in stories about societies falling apart, so I’m not working on one.”

“I’d like to use my comedy skills again, so I’ve been writing scripts that are meant to make me laugh.”

The creator has since worked with Netflix on the mockumentary specials Death to 2020 and Death to 2021, as well as the animated interactive film Cat Burglar.

After Bandersnatch, the interactive special, the last season of Black Mirror only had three episodes.

Stars like Andrew Scott, Anthony Mackie, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, Topher Grace, and Miley Cyrus had also been on the show that season.

Black Mirror Season 5 Review

Black Mirror has been the go-to show for tech-driven anxiety for almost ten years. Charlie Brooker, the creator of the show, and Annabel Jones, a longtime collaborator, and executive producer, filled people’s minds with scary ideas of skewed reality, perverted consciousness, broken families, and brutalized bodies. All of these things were caused by rapid technological advances, which often bring out the worst in people and leave empathy and intimacy in their wake.

Like most great science fiction, Black Mirror turned out to be horrifyingly accurate in the worst ways. The episode “The Waldo Moment,” which was once thought to be one of the worst, is now one of the most relevant (if still not among the most entertaining).

But how can the show and the people who make it stay ahead of the curve when the real-world effects of technological progress keep moving faster than them? If Season 5, which just came out, is any indication, it can’t. But that doesn’t mean it can’t still be one of the most creative science fiction shows on TV.

For its fifth season, Black Mirror is going back to its old-school three-episode format. This is because the interactive experiment “Bandersnatch,” which was supposed to be the fourth episode of Season 5, took a lot of time to make. But the return to the length of a series doesn’t mean a return to tone or power. Each episode lasts an hour, which hurts episodes that would be better if they were either more tightly structured or had more interesting stories.

The first episode, “Striking Vipers,” is almost as good as returning director Owen Harris’s previous Black Mirror episodes, “Be Right Back” and “San Junipero,” which were both great. Both of those episodes were about the idea of human consciousness beyond or even after life as we know it, and they looked at the wonders and limits of that idea.

This same philosophical ground is covered in “Striking Vipers,” but it does so in a much more direct way. The episode shows a Street Fighter-like video game called “Striking Vipers” that uses consciousness-altering technology to drop players right into the action and make them feel everything that happens to their avatars. This is done to explore the line between identity and avatar and between pornography and infidelity in a world where online life is becoming more interactive.
