A Jury in Newark Finds That a Man Sexually Assaulted His Three Daughters

An Essex County jury found a 40-year-old Newark father guilty of repeatedly sexually assaulting three of his children, and he will serve at least 25 years in state prison.

In a statement released on Friday, December 16, acting Essex County Prosecutor Theodore Stephens II stated that the man, whose name is being kept to protect the privacy of his victims, was found guilty of several counts of aggravated sexual assault. According to officials, all three victims testified against their father throughout the trial.

The oldest, now 18 years old, testified in court that her father routinely beat her from the time she was 7 to 13 years old. The youngest victim, now 15 years old, claimed she was abused starting at the age of 10, while the second victim, now 17 years old, recalled being assaulted when she was 11 and 12.

According to the victims, the abuse typically took place when their mother was out at work in their own house. The mother allegedly called the police as soon as she was made aware of the abuse in 2017. In February 2018, the father was detained in New York City.

According to Prosecutor’s Office, he will be given a sentence of 25 years to life with 25 years of parole ineligibility under New Jersey law. The hearing for his punishment is set for February 27. “We appreciate the jury’s thoughtful evaluation of this case, “Deborah Freier, an assistant prosecutor, said.
