Empire Last Season: When Did Empire Finally Come to an End?

The previous year hasn’t been easy for “Empire,” but the show’s final season was cut short because of the coronavirus outbreak.

The production shutdown caused by the pandemic meant that only 18 episodes of the sixth and final season of “Empire” could be finished, despite the show’s original plan to air 20 episodes. For this reason, on April 21st, Fox will telecast the final three episodes of the series, which will also serve as the series finale.

Series actress Taraji P. Henson has stated that filming for episode 19 was interrupted by the government shutdown, and that material from that episode will be included in the series finale.

Episode 19 was in progress when this occurred. Henson estimated that the remaining time would be around ten days, or a week and a half.

With only five episodes left in the season, the popular Fox music drama was among the many shows and movies that had production halted because of the coronavirus outbreak. Empire appears to have its season and series finale locked in while the fate of other shows is still up in the air. A preview for the 100th episode, airing next Tuesday, promises that it will be the first of “the startling final three episodes of Empire.”

If that’s the case, the end of Empire will come sooner than expected, and the cast and crew will miss out on shooting the series finale. According to Deadline, the 19th episode, on which production was put on hold because of the pandemic, will be edited into the 18th episode to make it a more fitting finale.

Whether or whether viewers will find out what happens in the future flashes involving the shooting of Lucious (Terrence Howard) and the explosion of Cookie’s (Taraji P. Henson) automobile remains to be seen.

For the final episodes, “it’s all about family,” as showrunner Brett Mahoney previously told EW. “The question is whether or not the love they have for one another will survive the constant explosions of drama that each member of this family brings to the table.
