After three years, The Orville’s much-anticipated third season is almost here. After its first two seasons on Fox, this sci-fi comedy-drama is now on Hulu. The show is about Captain Ed Mercer, who is played by Seth MacFarlane. His life changes after his marriage end.
Eventually, Mercer is in a position to take a job as captain of the Orville, a middle-level spaceship for exploring. As he gets used to being in charge and learns to work with his crew, including his now ex-wife and first mate, Commander Kelly Grayson (Adrianne Palicki), Mercer takes Orville into uncharted territory.
This new home gives him a new lease on life and has led to some crazy adventures over the last two seasons, but it’s still too early to tell how the move to Hulu will affect the show. Here’s what we know so far about Season 3 of The Orville, which is called “New Horizons.”
The Orville Season 3 Release Date
At first, it was said that Season 3 would come out in March 2022, but the release date was changed. It looks like everything is now set for the release, which is a relief. Thursday, June 2, 2022, is when The Orville: New Horizons will be available on Hulu.

When he came up with the idea for The Orville, he went with his love of science fiction and Star Trek. Even though the show has some funny parts, it also deals with serious issues like inequality and the right way to explore space.

Anne Winters, who is new to the show, will join them as Ensign Charley Burke. Winters is known for her parts in the drama series 13 Reasons Why and the comedy Night School.
Lieutenant Yaphet, a sentient blob, was a character whose presence in Season 3 was uncertain. Yaphet, whose voice was done by the late comic Norm Macdonald, will be back for Season 3. Yaphet was one of Macdonald’s last roles. His voice works for him were done before the SNL alum died.

Lieutenant Alara Kitan, played by Halston Sage, isn’t in this season. Sage left the show in the middle of Season 2, so the character of Alara Kitan, who is nervous but sweet, isn’t in this season.
The Background of the Orville Season 3
Seth MacFarlane came up with the idea for The Orville. MacFarlane’s first live-action TV series was based on a speculative script. MacFarlane has said, “I’ve wanted to do a show like this since I was a kid, and now it feels like the right time.” The first episode of the show aired on September 10, 2017.

Filming for the third season started in the fall of 2019, but the COVID-19 pandemic slowed things down. The move from Fox to Hulu adds a promising show to Hulu’s growing list of shows, but it’s likely that it was one of the reasons why the third season came out late. In August 2021, the last shot was taken.
The Plot of the Orville Season 3
The Orville is a show that takes place about 400 years in the future. It follows Captain Ed Mercer (Seth MacFarlane) and his crew as they face the wonders and problems of space travel.
