If you are here after watching episode 7 of Bleach: Thousand Year Blood War, you have every right to be here. The episode and its events leave the destiny of one of the series’ main characters, Byakuya Kuchiki, dangling on a thread.
Byakuya was in a near-death state after Stern Ritter F, As Nodt attacked and defeated him. Not only did his opponent steal his Bankai, but he was also apparently no match for his opponent. In the most recent episode, following Ichigo’s presence, a badly injured Byakuya makes a final plea to our heroine.
In what appeared to be his final moments, the scene depicted Byakuya’s zanpakuto cracking, with death written all over it.
Then, is Byakuya Kuchiki indeed deceased? Or will he survive in some way?
In Bleach, is Byakuya Kuchiki Really Dead?
No, Byakuya Kuchiki is not dead. After Yhwach leaves the Soul Society and the mess is cleaned up, it turns out that Byakuya survived the whole thing. Initially, it was thought that Byakuya would never be able to do his job as captain or regain consciousness.
But when Squad 0 shows up, things start to change. They then take him to the Palace of the Soul King. Even though Unohana says that Byakuya is not well enough to leave the Seireitei, the members of Squad Zero point out that the captain would definitely die if he stayed.
Byakuya gets better at Soul King’s palace thanks to Squad Zero member Tenjiro Kirinji’s hot springs, White Bone Hell and Blood Pond Hell. As a smart healer, Kirinji made the hot springs to help shinigami who have lost blood or had their reiatsu damaged get it back.
The first few episodes show that Urahara’s hot springs on Earth were based on the ones that Kirinji made. Unohana was also taught how to heal by the second person.
Byakuya took the longest to get better than any of the other injured people who were taken to the Soul King’s palace. On paper, all he had to do was lie in the hot springs. This probably means that he was hurt very badly again.
Byakuya starts training with Squad Zero after he gets better so he can go back into battle against the Quincy. But, we know that Byakuya’s bankai was stolen. So how does he fight the quincy when he doesn’t have his bankai? Does he get his bankai back?
Is Byakuya Able to Reclaim His Bankai?
In short, Byakuya Kuchiki does get his Bankai back. This is because Keisuke Urahara made a special drug called Shin’eiyaku, which gives Byakuya Kuchiki back his Bankai.
We all know that Zanpakuto is basically the spirit that lives in every shinigami turned into a weapon. The shinigami train to turn this spirit into an empty sword, called an asauchi.
When they do this, they call the asauchi a Zanpakuto. Even though the spirit now lives in the asauchi, it is important to know that. It is still linked to the shinigami from which it came.
This is one reason why the zanpakuto spirit can only be heard by the shinigami whose zanpakuto it is. Also, why do the shinigami have to meditate hard enough to be able to talk to the dead?
Now, Zanpakuto has two forms: Shikai and Bankai. In the Shikai stage, the zanpakuto spirit only uses some of its powers to affect the sword, which changes shape to show this.
In the Bankai stage, on the other hand, the spirit’s full power is used and its fully weaponized physical form is shown. So, it was easy for the quincies to steal the Bankai from the shinigami and not the Shikai.
Also, as was said above, the spirit of the zanpakuto and the shinigami are connected in a much deeper way than just a sword and a swordsman or -woman. So, even after their Bankai was taken, the Shinigami could still use their Shikai.
It is important to know that the form of the Bankai or Shikai can change if the wrong name of the spirit is used or if the Bankai spirit lies to the shinigami about its real name or gives only half a name. For example, Yumichika Ayasegawa uses his kido-type Shikai as a close-range weapon so he can stay close to Kenpachi Zaraki. Abarai Renji’s bankai, Hihio Zabimaru, lied to him about its full name because it didn’t think Renji deserved to know it.
MUST WATCH:
Now, Urahara’s whole plan depended on this link between Shinigami and their zanpakuto spirit. He made a drug that can turn a Shinigami into a hollow. This meant that the hollow powers would also show up in their zanpakuto. Since shinigami powers clean up the soul society, they are more balanced than the powers of the quincies, which are to kill. Because of this, hollow powers are poison for Quincy, so they had no choice but to let the Bankai out of the medallion that they had stolen.
