Fashion Designer Christian Ernest Dior: Was Dior Ever Married?

Christian Ernest Dior, who was born on January 21, 1905, and died on October 24, 1957, was a French fashion designer best known for founding Christian Dior SE, one of the most prestigious fashion houses in the world.

Christian Dior SE is now owned by parent firm LVMH. Particularly “on five continents in barely a decade,” his fashion houses are well-known throughout the entire world. He was the second of seven children born to Madeleine Martin and Maurice Dior in the town of Granville.

Due to his artistic abilities, Dior was hired by and designed for a number of well-known fashion icons in an effort to keep the fashion business alive during World War II. After the war, he developed and launched the Dior fashion firm.

His “New Look” collection revolutionized women’s clothing and helped make Paris once again the center of the fashion industry. He received multiple accolades for best costume design during the course of his career. Several modern luminaries paid homage to his life and work after his death in 1957.

Christian Dior Sexuality: Is He Gay?

Dior never got hitched, and there have been and still are rumors and theories regarding his sexual orientation. Dior was lured to the artistic bohemian life of the city when he first arrived in Paris in the 1920s, and he became friends with the artist Jean Cocteau.

Dior’s sexual orientation has never been made public, and the topic is not addressed in his autobiography, which was released just before he passed away in 1957.

The closest he comes is in the penultimate chapter, “Friendships and Frustrations,” where he says he and Pierre Colle, the proprietor of a store where the surrealists displayed their works on the Rue Cambacérès in Paris, became “intimate friends” because “we both placed the same high value on friendship.”

Since it was uncommon, if not impossible, for gay men in the public eye to come out in the first half of the twentieth century, the absence of any discussion of Dior’s private life in his autobiography may be interpreted as a type of negative proof for his presumptive homosexuality.
