The Orville Season 2 Release Date: Will Disney Plus Carry the Orville Season 3?

The sci-fi comedic drama from eth MacFarlane The Orville wasn’t well-liked by the critics, but its first season saw it become Fox’s most-watched and highest-rated debut since Empire in 2015, and in November 2017, the program was formally renewed for a second season.

The Orville, a television series created by Seth MacFarlane, is set 400 years in the future and centers on the crew of the titular starship as they carry out interstellar missions. MacFarlane stated that he wanted to “fill the gap” that Star Trek left behind when it transitioned from its original series.

The Orville Season 2 Release Date

When MacFarlane was first cited as saying there was “too much to do,” it appeared that there wouldn’t be any more episodes in 2018.

He later tweeted about the idea of a Family Guy crossover and said that everything was set for season two to air later this year. To clear up some misinformation, he wrote, “Yes, The Orville season 2 will air later this year, and no, there won’t be an Orville/Family Guy crossover.”

Later, FOX stated that the new season would debut in the middle of the year, with the first episode (written by MacFarlane) debuting on December 30 and the rest episodes airing in 2019. (Later in February, season two’s official filming began.)

The Walking Dead’s first season didn’t premiere in the UK until December 2017 on FOX, but maybe the second season will follow a similar schedule and air after the US.

The Orville Season 2 Cast Members

We anticipate that the entire main crew of the USS Orville will return, including Ed Mercer, played by MacFarlane, as well as Kelly Grayson, the first officer and ex-wife of Ed Mercer, Penny Johnson Jerald, who plays Dr. Claire Finn, Scott Grimes, who plays Lieutenant Gordon Malloy, Peter Macon, who plays Lieutenant Commander Bortus, J. Lee, who plays Lieutenant Commander John LaMarr, and Mark Jackson, who plays Isaac, a science and

Season two will also have returning actors such as Norm Macdonald as Lieutenant Yaphet, Victor Garber as Admiral Halsey, Chad Coleman as Bortus’s mate Klyden, and Rachael MacFarlane as the computer’s voice on the USS Orville.

Expect to see MacFarlane consult his contact book for similar big-name guests in the upcoming run of episodes because the first season also included some heavyweight guest stars like Liam Neeson and Charlize Theron.

However, given that Halston Sage (Lieutenant Alara Kitan) was filming the Netflix romantic comedy The Last Summer at the same time as season two of The Orville, it’s feasible that one key character may be appearing less regularly.

Season two will continue Alara’s “coming into her own and truly finding her position on the Orville,” according to Sage, who also mentioned that Robert Picardo, who is best known for playing The Doctor on Star Trek: Voyager, will be returning to the show to play Alara’s father.

Gossip Girl star Jessica Szohr will join the crew of the USS Orville as a regular cast member in season two, possibly filling the vacuum left by Alara.

She won’t be the only newcomer on board the USS Orville however; Chris Johnson, who plays the new character Cassius, will also be a frequent visitor.

The Orville Season 2 Episodes Guide

The first season of the program was shortened to 12 episodes due to scheduling conflicts, but that “lost” episode, “Primal Urges,” is now anticipated to broadcast alongside the second season, for which MacFarlane has also stated that he anticipates producing “at least” 14 episodes.

In an interview with the Television Critics Association winter press tour, he said, “I’d rather make fewer episodes and have them be better content-wise than produce 22 and have them be filler.”

Here are a few details that have surfaced regarding the upcoming episodes:

– Jon Cassar will helm “Home,” the second episode of the new season.

– Episode 2×03 will be the first to include both Johnson’s Cassius and Szohr’s new Talla character.

Robert Duncan McNeil of Star Trek: Voyager, who also directed “Command Performance” from season one, will direct episode 2×04.

– Jonathan Frakes, a fellow Trek veteran who previously served as director of season one’s “Pria,” will also make a comeback to direct an episode for this season.

The season one episode “Into the Fold,” in which Dr. Claire Finn and Isaac were abandoned on a planet, served as an example of how the show’s universe could work with more science fiction, according to MacFarlane, who has stated that he intends to add more of it in the upcoming season.

It was a pretty gloomy, somber episode that nonetheless managed to successfully exist in that environment. For me, the episode from the first season served as the true litmus test for how far we can push the show’s science fiction elements.

However, one episode—possibly the pilot—is rumored to be fully set on board the Orville and, in the words of Scott Grimes, “not science fiction” at all. So, in general, count on finding a wide selection.
