In Washington In his speech to Congress on Wednesday, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy expressed gratitude to “every American” for their support of his country. The speech was intended to maintain U.S. and ally support for his nation’s defense against Russia’s savage invasion.
Zelenskyy praised politicians and regular citizens for tens of billions of dollars in military and economic assistance during the previous year, describing U.S. support as essential to Ukraine’s attempts to defeat Russia.

A “turning point” in the battle, according to the Ukrainian leader, will occur in the coming year, “when Ukrainian heroism and American commitment must guarantee the continuation of our common freedom — the freedom of people who stand for their beliefs.”

Members of Congress applauded loudly when Zelenskyy presented them with a Ukrainian flag signed by front-line soldiers in Bakhmut, in the disputed Donetsk area of Ukraine. The banner was being held up behind Zelenskyy on the podium by Vice President Kamala Harris and House Speaker Nancy Pelosi.
