Taboo is set in 1814 and follows James Keziah Delaney, a man who travels to the extremities of the world and returns irreversibly changed. Thought to be long dead, he returns to London from Africa to inherit what remains of his father’s shipping enterprise and start again.
To protect himself, Strange arranged for James to be released from the Tower and given a ship commandeered by the EIC in exchange for his quiet. Strange’s arrangement with James included the release of brothel workers Helga (Franka Potente) and Pearl (Tallulah Haddon).
