The American period drama TV shows Dangerous Liaisons is based on Pierre Choderlos de Laclos’s book of the same name. On November 6, 2022, Starz showed the first episode. The show was picked up for a second season before it even started. The show was canceled in December 2022, which was the opposite of the early renewal. It was also said that the show’s creators are trying to sell it to other networks.
Dangerous Liaisons Canceled by the Starz
According to Deadline, Starz has now decided to end its show Dangerous Liaisons, even though it had renewed it early for a second season. The last three episodes of the prequel series will still air on Starz as planned, but it has been reported that the show’s producers are already looking for a new home for it.
Starz put a lot of money into Dangerous Liaisons becoming one of their main shows in the future. It was made to cash in on the fame of both the classic story written by Pierre Choderlos de Laclos and the original Oscar-winning movie directed by Stephen Frears and starring Glenn Close, John Malkovich, Michelle Pfeiffer, Uma Thurman, and Keanu Reeves.
Alice Englert played Camille, and Nicholas Denton played Vicomte de Valmont. The twist of making the show a prequel set it apart from the many other versions of the story. The show was an origin story for the two main characters from the classic story. It showed how they met and how they started manipulating their way up the social ladder.
Even though the people in charge at Starz still like the idea and the work that went into it, the show could not find an audience. The first five episodes of the eight-episode run haven’t even reached ten thousand viewers, which is a disaster for a show that the network had hoped would be a mainstay for at least one more season.

Nielsen data from live and same-day ratings show that only 88,000 people watched the show’s premiere, with a 0.03 rating in the key 18-49 age group. Things would reach their lowest point over the Thanksgiving holiday when ratings dropped to 0.02 and 52,000 people watched. It’s likely that most of the people who watched the show did so through the Starz app, but the network hasn’t released information about how many people watched the show later or streamed it.
Will There Be a Season 2 of Dangerous Liaisons?
