Director Jennifer Kluska Shared an Update on Sony’s Ghostbusters Animated Film!

During this year’s Ghostbusters Day celebrations, it was revealed that in addition to the impending Ghostbusters: Afterlife sequel, now codenamed Firehouse, Sony Pictures Animation is also developing another feature picture.

The planned undisclosed feature is said to involve a “whole new crew” and a “fresh perspective,” but little more is known. In a new interview with The Wrap, co-director Jennifer Kluska shared an update on the project and revealed that she was first introduced to the brand through The Real Ghostbusters.

Kluska danced around the question of the film’s style, both in terms of how it looks and how it sounds. He didn’t say much, but he did say that it would have a “very specific link to the ‘Ghostbusters’ franchise.”

“By design this is going to be different. I think all of the films that Sony does are very consciously stylistically and tonally different and more and more also visually,” Kluska said. “The technology and the artistry pushes the medium and we are going to be looking for our own approach that’s going to be a very specific link to the ‘Ghostbusters’ franchise, to the world of supernatural and to the telling of ghost stories.”

As part of the film’s official announcement, director and co-writer Jason Reitman said: “Ghostbusters: Afterlife will be directed by Jennifer Kluska and Chris Prynoski and written by Brenda Hsueh.”

“[An animated feature] was a passion project of my father’s and it’s easy to understand why. The world of the unknown can only be properly explored through the limitless reach of animation.”
