Sony Picture Classics Has Released an Updated Trailer for Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon

Veteran cinema critic Roger Ebert gave “Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon” a perfect score of four stars, calling it the most thrilling martial arts film he had ever seen. Ebert, like many others, was mesmerized by Ang Lee’s martial arts epic, which had its world premiere at the 2000 Cannes Film Festival to a standing ovation lasting more than five minutes (via Ain’t It Cool News).

The world was swept up in the contagious spirit of the French film festival as critics started to warm up to Lee’s historical epic about two warriors searching for a lost sword. The international smash hit, which had romance, adventure, and action, dominated pop culture discourse in the new millennium and went on to win over four Oscars, including Best Foreign Language Film.

Excellent box office receipts followed naturally from positive word of mouth. An economic success during its initial release, Lee’s Chinese-language movie earned over $128 million domestically, making it the highest-grossing foreign-language movie ever at the domestic box office to this day (via The Numbers).

Given that “Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon” will be returning to theatres very soon, it appears that it will maintain its title as the top foreign-language film of all time at the domestic box office.
