According to Matt Reeves, the Screenplay for Batman 2 is Currently Being Written

The most recent film adaptation of the well-known comic book character, “The Batman,” was released in early 2022, and in contrast to many other more recent DC movies, it earned positive reviews. According to Box Office Mojo, the movie made $770 million worldwide and presently has a respectable 85% critic rating on Rotten Tomatoes.

Naturally, a sequel to the movie was announced soon after it hit theatres (according to Variety), with Matt Reeves serving as both the director and writer and Robert Pattinson reprising his titular character.

But many have questioned what will become of “The Batman 2” now that James Gunn and Peter Safran are in charge of DC Studios and have canceled “Wonder Woman 3” (according to The Hollywood Reporter) as well as confirmed that Henry Cavill won’t be playing Superman again.

Gunn promptly dispelled rumors that he planned to integrate Reeves and Pattinson into the larger DC universe. Reeves has provided an upbeat update on the progress of “The Batman 2” script, regardless of what the future holds for DC as a whole.

Matt Reeves, the co-writer and director of “The Batman,” disclosed in a recent interview with Comic Book that he and writing partner Mattson Tomlin is actively working on the script for “The Batman 2.”

He didn’t specify where he was in the writing process, but it sounds like they’re moving along quickly and he’s pleased with how things are going. Again, there was no evidence that the acquisition of DC Studios by James Gunn and Peter Safran was having any impact on his creative process, but certainly, things are subject to change.

Reeves stated, “I mean, I can’t really give you an update on that in terms of specifics, other than to say that we are hard at work on the script. I’m excited about what my partner and I are going to do, and we’re deep into it. Fans of “The Batman” and Robert Pattinson’s portrayal of the role should find this to be very positive news.

The sequel’s exact narrative is currently unknown, which is understandable given that the script hasn’t yet been completed. However, it’s likely that audiences will experience more of the dark noir atmosphere that they experienced with the original movie.

Additionally, it is less and less probable that Gunn and Safran will meddle in Reeves’ autonomous area of the Caped Crusader universe given Colin Farrell’s recent announcement that production on his “Penguin” spin-off series will begin in February 2023. (per Variety). Fans appear to be in for a lot more “The Batman”-related material in the upcoming years.
