Are You There God Its Me Margaret Release Date: Who Are the Cast Members in This Movie?

The film adaptation of Judy Blume’s seminal coming-of-age novel has begun production.

Images from the upcoming film Are You There, God? Abby Ryder Fortson plays the title character, Margaret, an 11-year-old whose life is upended when her family relocates from the city to the suburbs of New Jersey, where she “goes through the messy and tumultuous throes of puberty with new friends in a new school.”

Margaret’s mother Barbara, played by Rachel McAdams, is also struggling to readjust to life outside of the city, and Kathy Bates is Sylvia, Margaret’s grandmother, “who isn’t happy they moved away and likes to remind them every chance she gets.”

Kelly Fremon Craig, director of 2016’s The Edge of Seventeen, has adapted Blume’s 1970 novel for the screen. The film also features Benny Safdie and Elle Graham in supporting roles.

According to sources, Director Fremon Craig told Deadline in 2018 that Edge of Seventeen was the reason why Blume gave her the right to adapt the novel into a film after it had been published 50 years.

“Judy wrote me the nicest email ever, saying that if a movie were ever made of one of her books, she’d like it to have the same tone and feel as The Edge of Seventeen. Because she has always served as a beacon of inspiration for me as a writer, this may be the highest praise I’ve ever received “the time, Fremon Craig said.

“It’s helpful because any reader can recognize themselves in the characters. Even though I read it in the late ’80s, I initially thought it was written in the ’70s.”

She went on to say that “she captured something universal and timeless enough that it transcends all that.”

Are you there god? it was me, Margaret. would have its world premiere at the san francisco international film festival on April 23, 2023, and was scheduled have been released in the United States on April 28, 2023, by Lionsgate.

The book was contested and prohibited shortly after its publication, but it went on to become a success and is now widely regarded for its insightful treatment of religious themes and the experiences of young adults. It remains to be seen if Are You There God? film will stir up as much debate as the novel did, but it has a skilled director at the helm. A film adaptation of Margaret Atwood’s novel It’s Me, Margaret will be released in 2019.

Kelly Fremon Craig, who wrote and directed the highly regarded film The Edge of Seventeen, will serve as writer and director for this project, which will also feature her work as a producer alongside Julie Ansell, Blume, Amy Brooks, James L. Brooks, Kelly Fremon Craig, and Richard Sakai.

The film, Gracie Films’ Are You There God?, was distributed by Lionsgate. Fortson (Ant-Man and the Wasp) will co-star with Rachel McAdams (Doctor Strange), Benny Safdie (Licorice Pizza), Kathy Bates (American Horror Story), Elle Graham (Swamp Thing), and Amari Alexis Price in It’s Me, Margaret.
