Sanditon is a British historical drama TV show based on an unfinished manuscript by Jane Austen. It stars Rose Williams, Theo James, and Ben Lloyd-Hughes. During the Regency era, the story is about a young, naive heroine who is trying to figure out the new seaside resort of Sanditon.
Due to the fact that the book wasn’t finished (Austen only wrote eleven chapters), the original work was used for most of the first episode. After that, Davies used the characters who had already been developed to finish the story.
The book is set in a seaside town during a time of social change. At the time of her death in 1817, Austen had written 24,000 words of the novel.
The first eight parts of the series aired on ITV in the UK on August 25, 2019, and on PBS in the US on January 12, 2020. PBS supported the production as part of its Masterpiece anthology. As part of a partnership between PBS and BritBox, a second and third series were ordered in May 2021. ITV bought the series for later linear broadcast (i.e., broadcast programming; compare, OTT).
