The Match Release Date: When It Will Be Renewed?
The Match has no confirmation date, and a biopic about the battle between Cho Hun-Hyun and Lee Chang-ho, two master and student Go players, will be available on Netflix in 2023.
Kim Hyun-Joo, who previously worked on the 2017 criminal comedy film The Sheriff in Town, is the writer and director of the upcoming movie. The Match’s filming was finished in April 2021, but the COVID-19 outbreak caused distribution delays, according to The Korea Times.
Netflix said last Friday (December 16) that the eagerly awaited South Korean movie The Match would have its global premiere on the streaming service rather than in theatres. The movie’s release date was not made public by Netflix as of the time of publication.
Between April and June 2022, Lee most recently appeared in the tvN drama series Our Blues, which was also made available on Netflix in some areas. Following its release, the slice-of-life drama was included in NME’s list of the top 10 K-dramas of 2022, where it was cited as “one of the year’s most subtle K-dramas.”
The Match will be Yoo’s third appearance as a performer in a Netflix production, following appearances in the crime drama Seoul Vibe earlier this year and the dark supernatural thriller Hellbound in 2021. The actor will also appear in the upcoming Netflix apocalypse drama Goodbye Earth.
The Match’s release date hasn’t yet been announced by Netflix as of this writing. But we can say with certainty that the film will be released in 2023.
Who Are the Cast Members of the Match?
Cho Hun Hyun will be portrayed by Lee Byung Hun. Fans of Squid Game would identify Lee Byung Hun as Hwang In Ho or The Frontman, even though his face remained hidden for the bulk of the season. In the second season of Squid Game, he will repeat his part.
