The opening of the minute-long trailer takes place entirely inside what could be a greenhouse. Gil Boksoon, the protagonist, is asked what she does for a livelihood, and she says, “I just work for an event planning firm,” with a smile on her face. It’s tricky to miss, but early on in the film, leading man Jeon Do-yeon flashes a sly grin at the camera.

Next, Boksoon appears in a more intimidating outfit as she negotiates the handover of a case containing numerous firearms. Sad-eyed, she laments over a cup of hot cocoa, “It’s so ironic that I’m a mother while doing this kind of work,” as her boss (Sul Kyung-gu) watches.

A couple of seconds later, over images of her carrying out hits with various weapons, Boksoon admits that she is more at ease killing people than she is nurturing her child.

Who Is Making Kill Boksoon?

A new movie poster was released alongside the trailer, hinting at Boksoon’s arsenal. The one-sheet, which takes its cues from comic books, depicts her making her way along the barrel of a muzzled rifle while a bloodied pair of scissors follows close after, a katana dangles above her head, and an axe lies in wait underneath her.

Byun Sung-hyun, noted for his work on The Merciless (2017), is behind the camera for Kill Boksoon. The film is scheduled to make its world premiere at the 73rd Berlin International Film Festival, where it will compete in the popular Berlin Specials section alongside other films like Brandon Cronenberg’s Infinity Pool and Anne Fontaine’s The Innocents.

Star Hwang Jung-min appears in Kill Boksoon; he was previously seen in the Netflix drama Narco-Saints.
