Within three weeks of its September release on Netflix, the first season of Heartbreak High, a humorous, light-hearted Gen-Z version of the beloved Australian adolescent dramedy, had gathered an amazing 42.6 million views. Heartbreak High has achieved an international audience with over 300 million views on TikTok, where it lasted two weeks in the top 10 list.
Heartbreak High combines the openness and humor of Sex Education with the melodrama of Degrassi to create a show that feels true to the lives of modern Australian adolescents. Hannah Carroll Chapman conceived and wrote a complex ensemble of characters that we were introduced to in the first season.
Ever since the premiere of Heartbreak High’s first season, viewers have been wondering which characters will reconcile their romantic relationships. Fan favorite Darren’s (James Majoos) star-crossed romance with drug dealer Ca$h (Will McDonald), who we last saw was being arrested and hauled away by the cops, was one of many relationships and friendships explored during the season.
Also, the love triangle between Amerie (Ayesha Madon), Harper (Asher Yasbincek), indigenous basketball player Malakai (Thomas Weatherall), and dreamboat Dusty (Daveed Diggs) was resolved, and the couple have made up (Joshua Heuston). Dusty’s betrayal causes Amerie to reevaluate her feelings for her childhood crush, Malakai, but if their lingering glances are any indication, the two still seem to have feelings for one another.
Meanwhile, Quinni’s (Chloe Hayden) and Sasha’s (Gemma Chua-Tran) tentative romance fell apart as they realized how mismatched they were.

Heartbreak High Season 2 Plotline: What Will it Be About?
Many viewers are eager to find out what happens next to our favorite characters in Season 2, which is set to begin after the events of Season 1. It’s great to have Amerie and Harper back together again as friends instead of always at each other’s throats like they did throughout the first season.
The shocking events of that strange music festival night were detailed in the series finale. As Harper tossed away their bottle of drugs, Amerie frantically searched the throng for her. When Amerie (played by Bryn Chapman-Parrish), who was looking for Harper, got lost, she ended up hanging out with Spider (the school prankster).

The drug dealer boss of Ca$h, Chook (Tom Wilson), and his friends try to sexually assault Harper in a car, and she has to fight her way out. Driver Ca$h assists her by unlocking the vehicle, and she just makes it out of the car before sprinting off into the woods. She waits till it’s safe, then walks to Amerie’s house to knock on her window, but Amerie is amid a hookup with Spider.

When Amerie is too ashamed to answer the door, Harper ends up having to visit her erratic dad at their house. Because of what happened that night, she had to spend some time living with a different family as a foster child while her father recovered. When her father attempts to attack her again, Harper defends herself by stabbing him.
In the end, the truth reunites the two closest friends, but it also shows that they are prone to make poor choices, as seen by the fact that they smashed the windows of Chook’s car and drove off as it caught fire. Fans, even though they believe he earned it, are on the edge of their seats waiting to see what happens next.

Nevertheless, it’s obvious that poor Spider still has feelings for Amerie, despite their unsuccessful hookup. We’re hoping to get a better look at their chemistry as well. If we’re talking about Amerie’s potential suitors, it’d be wonderful to see Dusty or Malakai become more accepting of his orientation and do some introspective soul-searching.
Viewers were also happy to see Malakai (Kevin Michael Richardson) and Missy (Sherry-Lee Watson) become friends after Malakai’s terrible encounter with the police in Episode 4. Ideally, Missy’s core storyline in season 2 won’t just involve her longing for her ex-boyfriend Sasha and defending Malakai, but also her camaraderie with the two of them.
What Happened in Season 1 of Heartbreak High?
In Season 1, former best friends Amerie and Harper graffiti a map onto a previously unseen school wall. The so-called “incest map” provoked outrage among the student population of Hartley High, especially among the students whose dirty laundry was aired when photographs of the wall spread on social media.

It described the different, intersecting sexual activities of the pupils. Performatively woke Principal Woodsy (Rachel House) quickly enrolls individuals whose names were found on the “incest map” in a sex literacy tutorial (called “sluts” by the pupils) with the English instructor, Jojo, to placate the parents and the community (Chika Ikogwe).

Amerie takes the fall for what happened but is then sucker-punched by Harper and shunned by the rest of the student body for her part in the incident. Amerie’s slide from the top of the social pyramid in high school prompts nonbinary Darren and his autistic best friend Quinni, both social outsiders, to take her under their wing.
The new group of three works together to fix Amerie’s image and provides emotional support as they all experience love and make errors.
