Even if all the other horror movies in the world were perfect, this year wouldn’t be complete without a Stephen King adaption. The new Children of the Corn film series will be released this year, following the success of last year’s Mr. Harrigan’s Phone and Firestarter.
There will be no continuation of the storyline involving the murdering youths, but simply a glimpse at what may lie ahead. The filmmakers are starting from scratch this time around. Children of the Corn’s newest part is a prequel that explains how the anarchy and youth-led dystopia got their start.
Children of the Corn (2023), written and directed by Kurt Wimmer (Equilibrium), isn’t based on King’s original short story but rather on the mythology established by King. While being the eleventh book in the series, it takes a different path, exploring the mythology underlying the kids’ revolution. Here is how horror movie buffs may watch the latest installment of Children of the Corn, whether they like to go to the theatre or stay at home.
