In other words, it’s Tiffany Haddish’s Afterparty, and she can do whatever she wants. As Apple TV Plus has decided to pick up a second season of The Afterparty, we now know when to expect it. Haddish will be back as Detective Danner, but what about the rest of the characters in The Afterparty? Sam Richardson and Zoe Chao will be back, so that’s good news. A slew of fresh faces, including Ken Jeong, have joined in on the action.
Christopher Miller conceived and directed the series, which he and Phil Lord executive produced. The first season kicks off with murder during the reunion afterparty. Each episode features a new perspective character and a new storytelling style, from psychological thriller to musical to animated.
The second season will include a new case involving a murder at a wedding. In this respect, Knives Out 2 (which recasts Daniel Craig as Detective Benoit Blanc) and White Lotus season 2 are comparable (only Jennifer Coolidge returns from the original cast).
The After Party Season 2 Release Date
According to Tomsguide, Apple released the above first look of Aniq holding a doll and announced(opens in new tab) a release date of Friday, April 28, 2023, for season 2 of The Afterparty.
The series was only recently renewed by the streaming service on March 2, meaning season 2 may not begin filming for some time. Miller and Lord are two of the busiest producers working together today. In addition to remaking Clone High and filming Project Hail Mary with Ryan Gosling, the studio is hard at work on the next sequel to Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, set for release in December.
The Afterparty season 2 might take months to produce even if someone else takes over show running duties and Miller steps down as director. The second season likely won’t air until late 2023, according to our estimates.
The Afterparty season 2 Cast Members: Who Are in It?
Tiffany Haddish returns to Afterparty as Detective Danner for its second season. Sam Richardson, who plays Aniq, and Zoe Chao, who plays Zoe, are also returning.
Ike Barinholtz, who plays Brett, Ilana Glazer, who plays Chelsea, Jamie Demetriou, who plays Walt, John Early, who plays Danner’s partner, Detective Culp, and Reid Scott, who plays Danner’s enemy, Detective Germain, could all return as well. While it’s less probable that we’ll see Xavier (David Franco), the murder victim, again, Xavier’s music videos might provide some insight into his character that was lacking in the first season.
Several new cast members, including Elizabeth Perkins, Zach Woods, Paul Walter Hauser, Poppy Liu, Anna Konkle, Jack Whitehall, and Vivian Wu, have joined the cast for Season 2.
Also, Ken Jeong will be joining The Afterparty cast in a mysterious capacity. Apple has announced the premiere date and provided a first peek, and the company has also mentioned that John Cho will be a part of the cast.
There are also other shows in a similar genre that can keep you occupied till the debut of the afterparty series. Such Shows Include The Way Home Season 2 Release Date, Gossip Girl Season 7 Release Date, The Infinitors Episode 14 Release Date,
The Afterparty season 2 Plotline: What Can We Expect From It?
Season 2 of The Afterparty will feature Danner solving a new case at a wedding reception. Aniq and Zoe may tie the knot. They did makeup in the season finale, after all.
According to Apple’s official description “When the groom is murdered in Season 2, everyone at the wedding becomes a suspect. Aniq (Richardson) and Zoe (Chao) are trying to solve a murder, and they’ve enlisted the services of Detective Danner (Haddish), who returns to the case after hearing the suspects’ versions of events from various family members, lovers, and business associates.”
In the last episode, appropriately titled “Maggie,” we hear from Zoe and Brett’s daughter Maggie. The small girl told Danner about her evening, during which she drew a cat face on Aniq and witnessed Jennifer #2 wetting herself (her water broke, so she went to the hospital).
After hearing Maggie’s version of events, Danner claims to have the killer pegged. Anik, Brett, or Walt. But, Walt was already plotting his streaking exploits in the restroom. Aniq steps forward to reveal that he witnessed Brett in the driveway right before the murder took place. Aniq, finally ready to face the music, remembers that the story always ended with the closet being closed. But when he checked the drawings on his face, it was cracked.

That turned out to be Yasper, who had been hiding in there. He resented Xavier for being well-known and for not endorsing Yasper’s music. This motivated him to murder Xavier, steal the song, and then release it as a posthumous duet as a means of retribution.
Yasper claims that their text messages show that they were friends, but A/V technician Danner points out that Yasper could have simply obtained the password to the deceased pop star’s account. Aniq then has the epiphany that Yasper might have erased the surveillance tape by using Xavier’s phone. Yasper is caught red-handed as his phone is uncovered in his pants.
Danner boasts to her captain and her archenemy, Detective Germain, about her success. While that is happening, Aniq and Zoe leave for breakfast. She eventually stops the car and asks him when he plans to take the next step. They’re in the middle of a passionate kiss when Walt awkwardly interrupts to request a lift.
This party is finished now that the case has been resolved and Yasper is going to jail. Danner is facing yet another transition as wedding bells are replaced by police sirens.
