Vigil Season 2 Release Date: What Happened in the Previous Season?

The nuclear submarine thriller Vigil ended in September 2021 after six engrossing episodes and an outstanding finish.

The drama was a big success, garnering positive reviews and being the BBC’s most-watched new drama launch of the year. It featured a fantastic cast that included Suranne Jones, Rose Leslie, Shaun Evans, and (very briefly) Martin Compston.

Thus, it should not be shocking that BBC One and BBC iPlayer have renewed Vigil for a second season.

Vigil Season 2 Release Date

According to Radiotimes, As previously announced, the second season of Vigil will air on BBC One and BBC iPlayer.

There is no release date for vigil season 2 mentioned here because production does not give any official announcement for the season 2 release.

In September 2021, Anjli Mohindra, who plays Tiffany Docherty, told RadioTimes.com, “There have been conversations” regarding a second season.

“I think there are things on the horizon,” she mused. However, there is currently no definitive information.

Who Will Be in the Vigil Season 2 Cast?

Suranne Jones, who plays DCI Amy Silva, is the only cast member of Vigil who has been confirmed to return at this time.

We expect Rose Leslie’s Kirsten Longacre to make an appearance as well; the two have reconciled, so perhaps they’ll make a dynamic duo in the fight against crime.

Writer Tom Edge has stated that continuing the Vigil series is highly unlikely, so this may be the last time we see most of the Vigil crew, including Shaun Evans as Elliot Glover, Anjli Mohindra as Tiffany Docherty, Patterson Joseph as Neil Newsome, and Connor Swindells as Simon Hadlow.

It’s possible that we could see these characters again in a new context, perhaps delving into what happens beyond the first season, but it’s too soon to tell.

Certain actors, though, including Lauren Lyle’s Jade Antoniak, Adam James’s Mark Prentice, and of course Martin Compston’s Craig Burke, are dead ends because they died in the first season.

Given the great cast assembled for the first run, we can only assume World Productions will be able to draught in some big names for a second season, especially following the popularity of the series.

Vigil Season 2 Plotline: What Can We Expect from It?

There isn’t much information available about the show’s potential second season, other than the fact that Tom Edge has stated a second run probably wouldn’t take place on a submarine.

Writer Tom Edge has already stated that while another series based on the submarine itself is doubtful, he may revisit some of the characters in the future.

“In a submarine, we’ve probably told all the stories there are,” he added. Yet, some of the personalities we’ve created along the way feel like worlds we’d enjoy living in. So, if there is a desire to do it from everyone else, I would be willing to participate.”

And in a recent Q&A with BAFTA Scotland, Lorne MacFadyen, who played the traitor Doward, offered his idea for a possible second season.

He quipped, “There was talk about doing a Vigil musical. Very awesome, in my opinion. I promise I’ll make it in song and indeed!

As things stand, we may either observe the aftermath of Vigil’s disastrous tour and the ongoing battle between the Navy and anti-nuclear deterrence campaigners, or we can watch Silva and Longacre investigate a case that has nothing to do with the submarine.

After the popularity of the first season, we wouldn’t turn down either option, and we’ll keep this page updated with any new information.

Where to Watch Vigil Season 2?

Since that the first season of Vigil Season 2 is already available on Peacock, it only makes sense that the second season would premiere on the same service. Those who watched Season 1 of Vigil were eagerly anticipating Season 2, and they want to know everything there is to know about Season 2.

Season 2 of Vigil has not been officially announced as of yet. If the show is made, it will likely air on Peacock as the pilot did.

What Happened in Vigil Season one?

The series takes place in Scotland, and it centers on what happens after a fishing boat goes missing and a crew member on a Trident nuclear submarine dies. On all occasions, local law enforcement and British security personnel clashed, drawing in the Navy.

Unfortunately, Peacock has decided not to give the show a second season. Due to the lack of information, we can only speculate about the plot of the third season of Vigil. Nonetheless, the next season will likely continue the tale from where the last one left off.
