Given that most production companies are placing their bets on expensive blockbusters and superhero movies featuring rising stars like Tom Holland and Florence Pugh, it’s hard to imagine how a picture like Book Club would ever get created. Oh, thank God!

Suddenly, audiences were eagerly anticipating the sequel to a picture that seemed certain to fail. Mary Steenburgen, who played the lead in the original film, confirmed the production of a sequel a year after its debut.

Apart from the four main characters, Andy Garcia will also be back in his role as Mitchell, a love interest for Diane after her husband dies in the previous film. Don Johnson also reprised his role as Vivian’s younger years ex-boyfriend Arthur.

Who Is Directing Book Club 2?

Bill Holderman is the film’s director. The sequel to Book Club is titled The Next Chapter. A former producer, Holderman has worked in a variety of fields. His first film credit was for the Robert Redford film Lions for Lambs, where he served as an associate producer.

The three interconnected plots of this political thriller all pointed fingers at the United States government for its handling of the Middle Eastern wars. Thereafter, Holderman worked closely with Redford, since his next two producing credits were on films directed by Redford: a post-Civil War courtroom drama titled The Conspirator, and a narrative about an elderly anti-Vietnam War protester titled The Company You Keep.

In addition to working with Redford, he has produced several films on his own. A Walk in the Wood, starring Robert Redford and Nick Nolte, was the first script that Holderman wrote. Book Club, which he not only authored and produced but also directed, marked his directorial debut in 2018. He’s done all three hats before, but this time it’ll be his second time around.
