Aisling This Way Up, a comedy-drama starring Bea, premiered on Channel 4 again this month. It follows Bea’s character Aine as she works to recover from a “teeny” breakdown with the help of her sister Shona (Sharon Horgan).
As there has been a time jump in This Way Up, season two has already moved on to the start of Aine’s covert romance with her boss, single dad Richard (played by The Crown star Tobias Menzies).
Pre-lockdown, season two concluded on a cliffhanger (spoiler alert!) Shona accidentally confessed to having an affair with her business partner, Charlotte, in a voice note she sent to her fiance.
Menzies recently responded that he would “love to do more” of This Way Up when asked if a third season may be possible, but he added, “I do think that it costs Aisling to write it. The work, you know, has a very personal quality.
“She’s digging, I think, very deeply into her own experiences and her own life to acquire that high level of authenticity,” he continued, exclusively to RadioTimes.com. “Out of that, she can spin something that’s at times extremely poignant and quite humorous. And it is challenging to accomplish it.
But perhaps if she goes and lays in the pitch-black room for a while. Indeed, she has another one in her, let’s hope, he continued.
This Way Up Season 3 Release Date: Will There Be a Third Series?
According to Radiotimes, We’ll update this page with any news on the third season of This Way Up when it becomes available. In addition to Channel 4 and All4 in the UK, the series would air on Hulu in the US.
The second season of This Way Up debuted on July 14 at 10 p.m. on Channel 4, and all subsequent episodes were made instantly accessible to stream on All 4.
This Way Up Season 3 Cast Members: Who Are in It?
English-as-a-foreign-language (TEFL) teacher Aine was once again played by Irish comedian Aisling Bea in season two of the Channel 4 comedy This Way Up. Aine is trying to recover from a nervous breakdown.
Aine’s successful sister Shona was portrayed by BAFTA-winning Catastrophe writer and performer Sharon Horgan, and Richard, Aine’s boss, and the potential love interest were portrayed by Tobias Menzies (The Crown, The Terror).
While Aasif Mandvi (The Daily Show, Halal in the Family) played Shona’s partner Vish, Indira Varma (well known for her role as Ellaria Sand in Game of Thrones) played Charlotte.
This Way Up Season 3 Plotline: What Can We Expect From It?
We follow Aine at the start of the second season as she “starts to leave her time in treatment behind and live less carefully, which may not be prudent,” according to the official synopsis provided by the American streamer of the program, Hulu.
“What I appreciate about Aisling’s work [is] [that] there are] loads of incredibly complicated interesting women in it, but that doesn’t end there,” Tobias Menzies stated. You’re tackling a topic like how emotions affect men’s sexuality while keeping in mind that the male characters also have lives of their own. It’s a product that is neither selling well nor getting much dramatization.
The second season is picking up where the first left off in that sense by addressing fairly profound, emotional topics in a really smart, hilarious way.
The third season would presumably follow suit if it were to be commissioned, though it is unknown if there will be as much of a time gap between it and the second as there was between the first and second.
But we’ll undoubtedly witness the repercussions of Shona mistakenly confessing to an affair with Charlotte’s business colleague Vish in a voice note addressed to him instead of Charlotte.
How will Aine and Richard’s relationship develop now that Richard has revealed their relationship to his son Etienne, who is also Aine’s student? And by the conclusion of season two, the COVID-19 lockdown would have arrived.
If the events of season three take place during a lockdown, we might also follow Aine as she is compelled to sit alone and process her grief, cut off from her sympathetic support network, and separated from her sister and best friend Shona.
Is There a Trailer for This Way Up Season 3?
