Bon Jovi

Class of 2018 Hall of Fame

JERSEY SHORE -- When you think about the Sound of Asbury Park, you have memories of the warm summer sun, the smell of fries, the sound of footsteps on the boardwalk and knowing that it could be “Slippery When Wet.”

A Jersey born product of the shore, of Asbury Park, Bon Jovi will be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Class of 2018, and it will be well deserved.

Jon Bon Jovi began playing piano and guitar at the tender age of 13. He then met David Bryan and formed a band called Atlantic City Expressway. The Expressway played in many venues in Asbury.

As a young teen, Bon Jovi played in a band called “John Bongiovi and the Wild Ones” playing local clubs throughout New Jersey. In 1980, a new band called “The Rest” began opening for rock acts like Southside Johnny and the Asbury Jukes.

The rest is history as they say.

The Hall of Fame induction ceremony will take place April 14 in Cleveland. Bon Jovi is among some amazing company, they join stellar acts The Cars, Dire Straits, The Moody Blues, and soulful Nina Simone.

This accolade has been a long time in the making. For years, it seemed Bon Jovi would be looked over again and again by the Rock Hall, despite having sold more than 130 million records and being one of the few rock bands to be able to sell out big arenas and stadiums around the world.

The 2018 Rock Hall’s fan vote of more than 1 million was for Bon Jovi.

They were first nominated in 2012 but didn’t make the cut. The ultimate decision for 2018 was up to the 900 members of the voting community within the Hall of Fame.

Jon Bon Jovi, David Bryan, Tico Torres and Richie Sambora, who exited the band in 2013, and original bassist Alec John Such, who departed in 1994, will receive recognition by the Rock Hall. According to sources all the original band members will be there for the induction and will be playing together in a reunion concert.

The band’s latest album, This House is Not for Sale, debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 when it was released in November 2016. Two new songs are coming out, “When We Were Us, and Walls,” and it looks like there will be a tour scheduled soon.
