Memorial Day Weekend at the Jersey Shore 2019

Finally, summer 2019 is about to arrive and after such a long winter we all deserve some fun, some sun, some beach and the Jersey Shore is ready to celebrate the “official start of summer” with fireworks, food and wine festivals and so much more. Here are some Memorial Day weekend events you won’t want to miss. And let us not forget to honor our American Heroes. They gave everything for our freedom.

Township of Ocean Founder's Day/Waretown


The event runs 9 am - 3 pm. Fun filled family event. Free Children's Inflatable rides; Over 125 vendors; Food trucks; live bands; Police Demonstrations; Cupcake Decorating Contest and a Cupcake Eating Contest. The day ends with a spectacular fireworks display over Barnegat Bay.

For the best viewing go to the end of Bryant Rd in Waretown.

Staging at 9th St. beach. The Memorial Beach Challenge provides financial support to military families through our official partnership with The 31 Heroes Project, and creates a better awareness of the incredible sacrifice military families endure to ensure our freedom. The main Obstacle Course Challenge event is a soft-sand adventure race—featuring Navy SEAL-approved obstacles. Very popular for young families is our Kids Fun Run, the Memorial Beach Challenge event has something for individual athletes and teams of all ages.

Wildwoods International Kite Festival

Largest kite festival in North America held on the beach at Rio Grande Avenue in Wildwood and inside the Wildwoods Convention Center.  Event begins on Friday at noon with the Unlocking of the Ocean media event outside of the Wildwoods Convention Center.  Festivities following include opening of the kite sales tent, a Friday night social via the local kite club and the 9 p.m. illuminated kite fly.  Saturday includes the silent and loud auctions (open to all) and Saturday & Sunday include the flying of large inflatable kites, sport kite demo's, team flying as well as family games.  Monday features the World Indoor Kite Competition inside the Wildwoods Convention Center.  FREE to spectators.  For more info call 732.822.4884

Wildwood Memorial Day Ceremony


Memorial Day Ceremonies at the Wildwood American Legion Post #184, 4200 Atlantic Ave. in Wildwood at 11 a.m. featuring speakers, recognition of deceased comrades, firing squad, “Taps” and wreath laying ceremonies at the Post, the Memorial Walk, and at the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Wall. Police Explorers will also lay a wreath in the ocean along with Wildwood’s Beach Patrol behind the Wildwoods Convention Center. Hosted by the Vietnam Veterans Chapter 955 and the American Legion Post #184.

Memorial Day Parade and Candlelight Vigil  



Parade steps off at Wildwood and Atlantic Avenues at 7:30 p.m. and proceeds south to Andrews Avenue and Ocean Avenue, ending at Burk Avenue. A candlelight vigil and ceremony will take place at the Wildwood Vietnam Veterans Memorial Wall, an exact half-size black granite replica of the official Vietnam Veterans Memorial in Washington, D.C., at sunset.  The wall has the 58,913 names of our country’s fallen heroes from the Vietnam War etched on its panels and stretches for 240 feet along the existing sidewalks of Columbus Park.

The Evening Flag Ceremony is a 40 year Tradition at Sunset Beach

Evening flag ceremony, which is held daily at 7pm Memorial Day weekend through August, and at 6pm on Saturdays in September. This tradition which has been a staple of Cape May for over 40 years. All of the flags that are flown at the ceremony are veterans' casket flags that families bring with them from their loved one's funeral. Cape May is honored to fly them at Sunset Beach. If you have not experienced this emotionally moving tradition, we invite you to be a participant in this celebration of being an American.

A great place to honor Veterans on Memorial Day. The garden features a cascading waterfall, granite columns and multiple flags. In addition, the Veterans Memorial Garden honors all past, present and future members of the Armed Forces.

Memorial Day Ceremony
New Jersey Vietnam Veterans’ Memorial

1 Memorial Lane, Holmdel

This annual event honors veterans of the Vietnam War. The ceremony takes place on May 27 at 11:00 am. This year, a selection of Vietnam Veterans will also be inductees of the Memorial’s “In Memory” program. Afterward, the museum will remain open until 2:00 pm. This is only one of many ceremonies in the NJ area.

Firefighters ceremony at the firehouse precedes the parade at 11:00 a.m.
